MMU Portfolio

Cover Artwork Project

My final piece for this project; the brief was to create cover art for a chosen Artist(s).  I chose Feel Good Inc by the Gorillaz and opted to stick to the colour scheme of the original album cover. Jamie Hewlett's work on Tank Girl also inspired me greatly for the rear of the cover.  To  produce my image I used Cinema 4D and Photoshop. The use of Cinema 4D allowed me to create the 3D effect on the text I had sketched initially.

Using Cinema 4D I created a virtual light box and studio so I could create the desired shadow effect on the text elements. I experimented with angles and light intensity within the program.

My initial ideas for the album cover was to focus on the corporate title of the track. I later chose to develop the bottom left into my final piece.

Cinema Poster: Gravity 2013

This is one of the two final pieces that I produced for this brief. My main influence for this poster was the original artwork released with Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Both the movie and the art work for this motion picture influenced me greatly. Using elements on line I was able to produce this poster in Photoshop.

To place emphasis on the outline of the 'red shoe', I gave it an outline of stars followed by a faint white line. This change was made at the last moment as the shoe was not as evident as I would have originally hoped.

My initial sketches for this poster focused on the trauma of the movie and lent itself greatly to the use of negative space.

Cinema Poster: The Hunger Games Catching Fire

This is the second final piece of the cinema poster brief. I chose to re-image the pre-announcement posters used to advertise The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. My focus was on that of the 'Mockingjay' logo used throughout the franchise. My inspiration for this piece was a small section of the announcement trailer released prior to the film's release.

Using a Creative Commons wall texture to base my poster on and using filters, I gave it the desired effect. The 'Mockingjay' itself was cut and re-hashed using free vectors and the erase tool. Then it was re-applied with another Creative Commons 'grunge texture' overlaying. I used a free font found online matching the art style and added the credit block from the original movie poster.

Most of my initial ideas focused on the tagline 'Tick Tock' and focused on a single element.

Typographic Project

My inspiration for this project was a trailer released before the announcement of the 3rd instalment of the Dark Knight series. This video shows the ice cracking to form the modern Batman logo. This inspired me to choose my word for this project which was 'Frozen'.

Using the Cinema 4D plug-in Thrausi, I created a set of individual elements from a single cube. I then duplicated this to add density adding my chosen font, re-applying a Creative Commons ice texture I sourced from deviant art to my text.

These were my initial ideas/sketches for the typographic project.

Packaging Project

This brief required me to create a label/packaging concept for a smoothie company. I chose to focus on minimalistic design for my inspiration. Using websites like Designspiration and Pinterest, I compiled a moodboard with images that were relevant to my desired style.

For my brand I chose to develop my own font rather than use an existing one. I chose to use modern fonts such as Animal Silence as my inspiration.

I created some initial logo designs using Adobe Illustrator, keeping to the font I had created.

For my final hand in I chose to create a mock-up of the finished product.

My finished product ready for hand in.
